Suppose your main transport vehicle is your bike. You took your bike out, but it’s raining outside. What will you do? You have to wait for the rain to stop. Otherwise, you’ll get wet.

You can wear a raincoat. But what if there was a better way to deal with rain or sun? That’s where the Sepal startup comes in place.

Who is the Founder of Sepal?

Kashyap Addepally & Vidhey Addepally are the founders of Sepal. They are brothers and from Hyderabad.

What is Sepal?

Sepal is a motorcycle canopy company. One can easily set up this canopy on his bike.

This canopy has a windshield at the front. It will protect you from the scorching heat of the sun, cats & dogs rain, strong wind & heavy dust pollution.

This canopy will stay in place even if you ride your bike at high speed. Even if the road is super bumpy, the canopy will stay strong.

The canopy comes with an application. It can make your life easy. You can take your call while riding. You can listen to good music. You can also navigate the map.

Sepal Before Shark Tank India?

Currently, people from 25 states in India are using Sepal. It’s also used by people in the USA, UK, Middle East, and African countries. The founders of Sepal want to make this a global brand.

How much money did they ask for Sepal?

They came to Shark Tank India seeking ₹50 Lakhs for 1% equity in the business.

Vidhey Addepally is a civil engineer from IIT Bombay. He’s mainly a structural engineer. Later he got a chance to study at Stanford University as well. But he didn’t pursue Stanford, instead, he wanted to make something big on his own.

During his undergrad final year, he faced a challenge while transporting. In Mumbai, rain can fall anytime. That’s why oftentimes he’d get wet while going to his class. He first made a canopy for his cycle. Later he realized that he could do the same thing for two-wheelers also. So, he made plans for a two-wheeler canopy.

Kashyap is an architect. He completed his undergrad in Pune. He completed his MS in the UK. Later he came back to Hyderabad and started his own design studio.

Namita Thapar was the first one to question the canopy. She wondered how one would not get wet using this canopy. Because rain can come from anywhere. The canopy was only giving protection from the top & front side. But what about the sideways? Rain can make someone wet from sideways too.

To answer that question, Vidhey said rain will protect the rider’s upper body completely. They have another addon called Thigh Flap. That will protect the rider’s thigh.

People can place their phones in the middle. And without touching the phone, they can use the joystick (left side) & buttons (right side) to control anything they want using the phone.

How much money did they raise for Sepal?

They have a granted patent for this product. They’ve raised ₹2.2 Crores at 22.5 Crores valuation.

They’ve built this entire technology from scratch. The entire app comes with a safety feature as well.

How to use Sepal?

Sepal is very easy to install. Sepal comes in 3 parts.

  1. Base: This is the first thing that you need to install. It will be fixed with your bike using the industrial straps.
  2. Windshield: It’s polycarbonate plastic which is considered to be the strongest out there.
  3. Canopy: It’s also very strong and durable.

Price of Sepal

The price of sepal is 10,000. Right now they have less production capacity. But once they build this in bulk, they can sell each for as low as 5,000.

They’ve launched Sepal 7 months back and till now they’ve sold 1000 units. Last month’s sale was 160 units. That’s 160k.

Which shark gave Sepal an offer?

Amit Jain was the first one to go out. He thought the price of Sepal was too much at the moment. Also, the target audience is still too low for this product. That’s why he didn’t want to invest in Sepal.

Namita Thapar thought the price of this product was too much and she couldn’t be excited about the product. That’s why she was out.

Anupam Mittal was confused about what the product was actually solving. He thought they should shift their focus from bikes to scooters.

Aman Gupta was out because he was still a bit confused about the business. For that reason, he was out.
